Our Story

It Starts…

like most great ideas do, at dinner over a few bottles of wine.  Add in some whip-smart women who’ve been triggered by the current political climate and the ideas started to flow.  This particular night we just happened to be sitting at a restaurant in Washington, DC steps from the Capitol and the White House.

The pain point: why doesn’t a list of women-owned businesses exist?  An app?  Some way we — and not just women, mind you — can seamlessly shop from women-owned businesses and hire women to do jobs that we’ve been socialized to think only men can do.

We kept asking each other, could we build a technology platform that would enable us to organize our shopping habits and service needs around women owned businesses in the cities in which we live, the places we visit and the online stores we buy from?

What a novel idea, one women at the table commented, “to hire WOMEN to come into our homes to fix things, female accountants to do our taxes, patron ethical nail salons owned by women, easily find women who own media agencies or girls who code.” You name it — we would support it.

This tech, we said, would put wallet feminism on the map and aid women in scaling their businesses.

But voting with our wallets was only part of the equation, really.  For serial entrepreneurs like ourselves, the bigger issue was that we had trouble finding capital so we could scale our businesses, generate a greater profit margin and employ more people. Women who own small businesses work around the clock with less.  Our mental and physical health suffers, which affects our families, our children and our marriages.

We all shared stories of how we had looked for angel funding to no avail, our pitch decks ending up in some lost files on our outdated laptops.  We all knew that women haven’t done better than capturing 3% of VC funding — ever.  We must, if we want to create change, get women closer to the money.  There is no choice; more angel funds need to exist that focus on female founders.

For $2.99 we bought the domain FemPages and with a small team, out of a kitchen, with loads of coffee and herbal tea on hand we began.

Our Mission…

We, at FemPages, believe that gender inequality will not be solved without a radical redistribution of political and economic power. Historically, women, have been at a disadvantage securing capitol to help start and scale their businesses. To achieve more, women need access to money.

Disruptors at heart, lovers of “freedom for all,” and living with the persistent feeling that we can do better as a society, we built this tech and financial platform. We created a company that serves five critical functions:

  1. Generates profits for women owned businesses
  2. Uses a significant amount of our proceeds and resources to host our signature pitch summits for the women owned businesses whom are listed on FemPages.
  3. Create public awareness around the specific challenges women face in the venture capital and business world
  4. Provide education and mentorship for female founders and investors aligned with our mission.
  5. Grow a like-minded community of fempreneurs and impact investors
